What do you need to consider when choosing the perfect Pit Boss grill?

Pit Boss manufactures affordable and simple grilling equipment. Here is a quick and simple list of the models to help you decide which is best for you.

Pellet grills

Pellet grills by Pit Boss are widely regarded for their extremely versatile design. These models fire with hardwood pellets that give your meat a complex and irresistible flavor.

Offset Smoker Grills

Offset smoker grills are unique as they function as smokers and grills. It has separate food and fuel chambers, which is great because you can add fuel without losing smoke or heat.

Gas Grills

Gas grills are the best for easy, lazy cooking. Just turn the knob, and the grill is ready to use. There are no extra fuel costs, and a quick wipe-down after use is all it needs in terms of cleaning.

Kamado Grills

Kamados are the Japanese equivalent of a grill. The primary fuel source is wood. Used for both smoking and grilling, Kamados are considered to be perfect for slow cooking.

Electric Grills

These grills are perfect if you have limited space. You obviously won’t get the same smoky flavor, but it is a convenient and cleaner way to grill.

Portable grills

Portable grills give you the chance to get authentic barbeque flavors regardless of your location. You can easily take these charcoal-fueled grills with you on a trip to the beach or a hike.

What to look for in a Pit Boss grill?

We’ve already established that Pit Boss offers a wide range of smokers and grills at reasonable prices. However, besides affordability, there are several other things to mull over when you’re choosing a product.

Here are a few basic questions to ask before making investing in a Pit Boss grill:

  • What is your budget?
  • Do you have the space for the grill you intend to buy?
  • Do the features complement your cooking preferences?
  • How sturdy and versatile is the unit?
  • Does the model come with a warranty?

Do Pit Boss grills use WIFI and PID Controller?

All Pit Boss wood pellet grills from the Platinum Series now come with PID technology and WIFI technology. This feature allows you to manage your grill from your smartphone effectively. It also offers Bluetooth technology because it gives direct access to the temperature controls and Pellet Alert System.

Pit Boss also offers two meat probe ports that allow you to get accurate, real-time temperatures without touching your grill.

Another plus point for this brand is the five-year warranty on most of its models.

What does ERL mean on Pit Boss??

That ErL error code is uncommon and not listed in the owner’s manual or the Pit Boss website. The error occurs when the pellet auger system jams up and obstructs the free flow of pellets.

Another error code—ErH occurs when there is an issue with heat and temperature control. It generally means the grill is overheating or the temperature probe wire isn’t connected correctly.

An ErP code generally occurs if the temperature dial is still switched on when the grill connects to AC power. It acts as a safety mechanism to keep the unit from starting by accident. To get rid of this code, turn the temperature dial off and wait a few minutes before starting it up again.

How do you season a new Pit Boss pellet grill?

The first thing to do with a Pit Boss grill is to perform the initial burn-off, as suggested in the manual. Next, you need to season your grill to avoid rust build-up and prevent food from sticking to cooking surfaces.

This section will show you how to season a pellet grill, but the same principles apply with other models too.

  1. Get the right oil

First off, make sure you have high-temperature oils like canola, coconut, or peanut oil. Bacon grease is also acceptable but remember, everything you cook from hereon will have some bacon flavor. Now you can oil the surface of the grates and broiler plate using a spray or basting brush.

  1. Turn it on

The next step is quite simple. Put the grates back on and turn the grill on.

We recommend following the startup procedures in your manual. After the initial startup, crank the temperature up to 375°F and let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes, and you’re ready to start cooking.

We also recommend that you not leave pellets in the hopper because they can rot when exposed to the outdoor environment.

If you’re still not sure about the steps, here’s a video on how to do a proper burn-off on your Pit Boss grill.
